No Pudge Behind the Plate for Houston

Rumors of Ivan Rodriguez potentially signing with the Houston Astros have been squashed as Houston General Manager Ed Wade stated today in an article on MLB.com that the future Hall of Fame backstop is not in the Astros plans for the 2009 season. "We're not signing Pudge," said Wade. "Put that one to rest. We have no expectation to sign Pudge." (Astros Beat Writer Alyson Footer broke the story as it developed.)
It looks like the Astros will be relying on J.R. Towles and Humberto Quintero to battle it out for the starting catchers spot going into the regular season. Also, veteran Toby Hall is in the mix for the position but Hall is battling a right shoulder problem that could eliminate him from getting the starting nod.
Pudge would have been a nice addition to the bottom of the lineup but there is no use crying over spilt milk. Let your voice be heard! Leave your mark!

Why would we want "pudge"? I mean do we want Nolan Ryan on the mound for us right now too. Don't get me wrong, I love "pudge." I hope to have my cathers hit that 1.4 or 1.8, whatever it was, down to second. But since he got off steroids, well, I don't even need to got there. Will just leave it as, we love pudge the way he "used" to be. New "pudge", no bueno. Old "pudge", Bueno. CCromeens - OUT!!!

I understand your arguement, but how could pudge be a worse option then what we have. He is clearly s better hitter than the scrubs we have right now and we can sign him to a cheap deal and see if it works out. He still hit for an ok average last year and he will at least get on base and give some stability to the bottom of the line up.

Need I remind you about that fiasco we had a couple years ago named "Woody Williams." Yes, lets hire old talent and continue to neglect that poor excuse for a farm system. Bottom line is, catchers are as scarce as Binladen - just can't seem to find em. If you find one that can catch, then he can't hit. Find one that can hit, he can't catch. "MAMA, DON'T LET YOUR BABIES GROW UP TO BE COWBOYS" How about, "MAMA, LET YOUR BABIES GROW UP TO BE CATHERS." Lets just focus on pitching. Astro's haven't had good cathing since Tony Eusbbio. In case you were wondering, that was a joke. It was Allen Ashby. CCromeens OUT!!!
